Sponsorship Information

The Verdugo Fire Academy encourages our cadets to seek sponsorship from area fire departments. This benefits the cadet and the sponsoring agency in many ways.  The primary intent of sponsorship is to provide the opportunity to fill each class with student representatives from surrounding communities and to provide that training element required by the CSFM for certification as a Firefighter I.

After successful completion of the fire academy, cadet(s) might be able to return to the sponsoring agency (details will be determined by each agency) and work to satisfy the experience requirement of the Firefighter I (12 month volunteer or six-month paid experience) after which he/she would be eligible for Firefighter I certification with the CSFM.

Depending on the agency the minimum for sponsorship is:

  • To provide the sponsored cadet with a department patch to wear on his/her Verdugo Fire Academy uniform.

  • To provide the sponsored cadet with NFPA approved personal protective equipment.

Sponsoring agencies can also offer other benefits upon successful completion of the fire academy program, such as:

  • A position as an auxiliary firefighter

The sponsoring agency can benefit by having trained, dedicated people ready for hire into full time positions.
