Edward Valeau
Dr.Edward Valeau

Hartnell College

Dr. Valeau has been president at Hartnell College since 1995. Previously, he was President of College of Alameda where he had also served as Dean of Instruction. He worked for seventeen years at Skyline College as Dean of Language Arts and Learning Resources, Director of Instructional Services and Staff Development, and as the Assistant Dean of Instruction. Dr. Valeau received his Bachelors degree in English from Southern University, a Masters Degree from California State University, Hayward, a Ph. D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and an IEM from Harvard University. Dr. Valeau is the current president of the California Colleges for International Education (CCIE).
Romero Jalomo
Dr. Romero Jalomo

Hartnell College

Dr. Jalomo is the Director of Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, CARE, and Disabled Student Programs and Services at Hartnell College. He is the Regional Coordinator for EOPS/CARE Region IV and Past President of the Central Coast EOPS/CARE Consortium. He recently served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of College Student Development and the Executive Board of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges. He is a former Assistant Professor of Higher Education Administration at New York University, and was the Project Director of the Center for Bilingual Education and Research at Arizona State University. Dr. Jalomo’s publications focus on college preparation, the transition to college and the first-year college experience.
Dibakar Barua
Dr. Dibakar Barua

Professor of English
Golden West College

Dr. Barua is an English professor and also serves as English department chair and Academic Senate President. He co-chaired the Chancellor’s Task Force on Equity and Diversity. Dr. Barua holds an M.A. in English from the University of Dhaka, a Diploma in Language and Literature (with Distinction) from the University of Edinburgh, and a Ph. D. in English from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He also taught English composition and literature at both SUNY-Stony Brook and UCLA.

Homer Cissell
Dr. Homer Cissell

Lassen College

Dr. Cissell is President of Lassen College. He was previously Dean of Instruction at Rend Lake College, in Illinois. He spent 29 years as an educator in Illinois, working in liberal arts for 10 years and then spent the next 19 years with public two year colleges. He received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D from Southern Illinois University. California has provided two first college experiences for Dr. Cissell. After returning from Vietnam he was stationed at Fort Ord and enrolled at Monterey Community College for his first college student experience. After his many years in Illinois, he has returned to California is now serving his first Presidency in the California Community College system. Dr. Cissell has participated in numerous accreditation visits in both the North Central and Western regions.

Ann Doty
Dr. Ann Doty

Director, Research, Planning & Grants
Irvine Valley College

Dr. Doty has been the Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Grants at Irvine Valley College since 1999. She previously worked at the League for Innovation, and was Associate Director of Workforce Programs for the North Carolina Community College System. She was Director of Research at North Carolina State University as well as an adjunct Professor and Assistant Director of the Community College Leadership Institute. She received her B.A. in Dance and Psychology, an M.A. in Continuing Education at the University of Michigan, and an Ed.D. in Higher and Adult Education from North Carolina State University.

Jim McCarthy
Mr. Jim McCarthy

Dean, Library Services
De Anza College

Mr. McCarthy has been at De Anza College in Cupertino, California for 28 years. He has served as Dean of Library Services, incorporating the library, open computer lab, and the Broadcast Media Center since 1999, and was previously the Director of Library Services for 19 years, originally coming to the college to set up and manage the extended campus library and audiovisual services. He holds a Bachelors Degree in history from California State University, San Bernadino, and a Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Southern California.

Wilma McLeod
Dr. Wilma McLeod

Vice President, Student Services
Modesto Junior College

Dr. McLeod is Vice President of Student Services at Modesto Junior College. She was previously a counselor at Southwestern College in Chula Vista for fifteen years, a full time faculty member in the business division for three years, and has also served as Assistant Dean of Business, Interim Dean of Business and Math, and Associate Dean of Student Services. She has been an educator for more than thirty years. She received her B.A. from San Jose State University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from California State University, Los Angeles.

Charles Meng
Mr. Charles Meng

Napa Valley College

Mr. Meng has served for fourteen years on the Board of Trustees at Napa Valley College. He is active at the state level in the Community College League of California and also teaches as an adjunct faculty member in the Southern Illinois University Engineering Outreach program. Mr. Meng was awarded a B.S. degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and a M.S. degree from the University of San Francisco. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later served as a senior engineering manager in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine construction and overhaul program. He has served on evaluation team visits at six California community colleges.

Kate Pluta
Ms. Kate Pluta

Professor, English
Bakersfield College

Ms. Pluta is a professor of English at Bakersfield College, and was also Chair of the Modern Language Division for five years. She has also served as President and Vice President of the CCA, Academic Senate President, and as a reference librarian. She received her B.A. in Comparative Literature, M.S. in Library Science, and a M.A. in Comparative Literature from California State University, Fullerton. She has participated in Study Abroad at the Free University of Berlin, and Language Studies at Goethe Institute in Rotherberg.

Nancy Rice
Ms. Nancy Rice

Vice President Administrative Services
Mt. San Antonio College

Ms. Rice is Vice President of Administrative Services at Mt. San Antonio Community College in Walnut, and has been on the Board of Trustees for the North Orange County Community College District since 1996. She is serving her second term as President of the Board. She received her A.A. at Mt. San Antonio College, and a B.A at California State University, Fullerton. Ms. Rice has been a member of the Board of Directors for LARISA, ASCIPO, and the SCCCDJPA.

Jacqueline Shadko
Dr. Jacqueline Shadko

Vice President Instruction
Vista Community College

Dr. Shadko has been Vice President of Instruction at Vista Community College in Berkeley for the past three years. Her prior community college experience includes positions as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Southwestern College and Dean of Liberal Arts at City College of San Francisco. She spent eight years at one of GCC's neighboring institutions, Woodbury University, where she taught part-time, full-time, and ultimately served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. She earned a B.A. in Music from Barnard College and a Ph.D. in the History of Music from Yale University.

Norval Wellsfry
Dr. Norval Wellsfry

Professor, CIS & Accounting
Consumnes River College

Dr. Wellsfry has been a Professor of CIS and Accounting at Consumnes River College for 5 years. He was previously Dean of Instruction at Sacramento City College, and Dean of Business at Antelope Valley College. He received is B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, an M.A. in Business from Old Dominion University, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. Additionally, he also submitted the “AAAJC Dissertation of the Year”, and passed his C.P.A. exam. This is Dr. Wellsfry’s 12th accreditation visit in both California and Oklahoma. He has served as president of both the California Community College Association for Occupational Education, and the National Council for Occupational Education, and is Chair of the Working Group for SLO Definition, National Center for Education Statistics.
