The mission of this day is to honor the victims of 9/11 and those who rose to service in response to the attacks by encouraging all Americans and others throughout the world to pledge to voluntarily perform at least one good deed, or another service activity on 9/11 each year. In this way we hope to create a lasting and forward-looking legacy -- annually rekindling the spirit of service, tolerance, and compassion that unified America and the world in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

YOU CAN HELP!

To honor the memory of those individuals, every year we do a Pack-A-Backpack drive to benefit School on Wheels, a non-profit organization that assists homeless children in the Glendale and surrounding areas.

We collect school supplies such as:

  • Backpacks
  • School binders (all sizes)
  • Subject Dividers
  • Homework folders
  • Staplers and staples
  • Mechanical pencils
  • Colored pencils and pens
  • 3-ring paper
  • Pencil sharpeners & pencil boxes or pouches
  • Calculators (school and scientific)
  • Spiral ring notebooks
  • Erasers (assorted colors shapes and sizes)
  • Crayons, markers & highlighters
  • Arts & crafts materials

This year we collected thousands of items from school supplies, arts and crafts to toys and stuffed animals. These items were donated to the YWCA of Glendale in partnership with School on Wheels on October 3rd, 2012. Thanks to the entire GCC Campus for their efforts and support in our annual drive.
