Coach MacKay strives to develop the complete person. He attempts to prepare his players for life by instilling mental toughness in them. This mental toughness manifests itself both on the court, in the classroom, and in life. In order to achieve this goal, Coach MacKay encourages a lot of “match play” in order to teach his players how to compete. As Coach MacKay says, “most of this game is mental, everyone knows how to hit a forehand at this level, but hitting that forehand with the match on the line displays mental toughness and a willingness to compete.” Coach MacKay is looking for players who have a strong work ethic and commitment both in the classroom and on the court. Additionally, players should have a positive attitude, put the team before themselves, and be willing to compete. MacKay believes that “if you enjoy what you are doing and compete to the best of your ability you will be successful.”
