CROSS COUNTRY

    Congratulations to the men and women's cross country teams for a pair of outstanding performances at Friday at the Western State Conference Preview Meet in Santa Barbara. The women's team won with 22 points with Moorpark second with 56 and Cuesta was third with 64. The men finished second behind meet winner Valley College with 47 points, Glendale had 49 and Cuesta was third with 72. 

    For the women over the 3.1 mile course, Karen Rosas took second in 20:22.35, Alyssa Selve was third in 20:36.47, Grace Graham-Zamudio was fourth in 20:41.50, Angela Martinez was fifth in 20:44.34, Nohemi Martinez was eighth in 21:03.40 and Cecilia Nicolas was 10th in 21:21.11. 

    The men were led by meet winner Mizrael Mendez, who took first-place for the four-mile course 21:38.85. Jesus Gutierrez was fifth in 22:12.29, Isaac Diosdado was 10th in 22:28.58, Kurt Lutz was 16th in 22:35.00, Nicholas Marquez was 17th in 22:40.83 and Ramon Robles was 20th in 22:46.41. 

     The men and women's team compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational Friday at 3 pm.

WOMEN'S GOLF

    The GCC women's golf team's had outstanding third-place finish in the North-South Invitational Tournament Sunday and Monday in Morro Beach. They are the top ranked team in the Western State conference. Glendale had a low score of 311 last Monday to finish with a two-day total of 634 to place third behind first place College of the Canyons with 621 and Palomar was second with 623. Pattraporn Silawanna was losw medalist with a 72 last Monday and two day total of 15o to finishe second overall. Vicanda Ma shot 79 Monday for a 163 and, Hannah Lee shot 81 and 163. 

   The Lady Vaqs compete in a WSC macth Monday Monday hosted by College of the Canyons at 10:30 pm and Glendale hosts a WSC match Monday October 17 at Brookside Park Course #2 at 11 am.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

     Glendale swept a pair of confernce matches last week to improve to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in WSC play. They beat Santa Monica in five games last Wednesday, 28-26, 25-15, 22-25, 18-25 and 15-9 and then beat Wset L.A. College friday in three game, 25-14, 25-8 and 25-6. In the win over Santa Moinica, Sara Kert led The Lady Vaqs with 15 kills, three service aces and two team blocks. Laila Souktani had 41 assists, Raquel Valenzuela had 29 digs and Cami Martin had five service aces. Amanda Sadia had two solo blocks and two team blocks and Angela Gaignard had five solo blocks.

    The Lady Vaqs host L.A. Pierce College Wednesday in the verdugo Gym and play at Citrus Friday. Both matches start at 7 pm.

MEN'S SOCCER

   Glendale spilit a pair of confernce matches last week and are 2-7-2 overall and 1-2 in WSC play. They beat L.A. Mission 3-2 last Tuesday nad fell to Moorpark College 3-1 Friday.

    The Vaqueros host College of the Canyons Tuesday at 7 pm and Allan Hancock College Friday at 5 pm. Both games will be played at Sartoris Field. 

WOMEN'S SOCCER

    The Lady Vaqs dropped a pair of conference games last week to fall to 0-4 in WSC play and 1-10 overall. They lost to College of the Canyons 9-0 last Tuesday and 5-0 to Santa Monica Friday.

    Glendale plays at Bakersfield Tuesday at 4 pm and hosts San Diego City College Friday at 7 pm.

FOOTBALL

    Glendale fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Pacific Conference American Divison play with a 28-20 loss to L.A. Pierce College Saturday. The Vaqueros rushed for 237 yards on 60 carries and were led by Joseph Wiggan who ran for 115 yards on 21 carries and one score and Timothy Broughton who ran for 99 yards 21 carries. Omar Sanchez-Barrera ran for two touchdowns on 11 carries for 14 yards. Alonzo Webb and Daniel Cruz had eight tackles, Osa Aikhionbare had seven stops and Matt Lopez added five tackles.

    The Vaqueros have a bye Saturday and host West L.A. College Saturday October 22 at 7 pm.
