The men's golf team opened up the 2012 season with a victory last Wednesday in the Tee-Off Classic at Los Serranos Golf club in Chino Hills. The Vaqueros shot 749 over two rounds, three shots ahead of College of the Desert at 752. COD was the no. 1 ranked team in Southern California coming into the match. Cypress College and Orange Coast College tied for third at 762.
Freshmen Richie Maloof and Mathias Dahl led the Vaqueros with matching two-round totals of 146 to tie for third overall. Maloof had a combined score of 72-74 and Dahl carded 74-72. Ryan Chotivchitr and Nick Quintanilla shot 151 and Michael Timpson carded a two-day total of 152 to pace the Vaqs.
Glendale opens up Western State Conference play Monday Feb. 6 in a match at the Valencia Country Club hosted by College of the Canyons.
The Lady Vaqs qon two of three games last week to improve to 7-2 overall. The fell to Mt. SAC 7-1 last Friday and then rallied to beat Santa Barbara 11-10 in a second game that day. They also beat Los Angeles Pierce College 14-6 Saturday. In the victory over Pierce, Brandy Morin and Carly Zabka had two hits a piece with Zabka driving in three runs and Kitty Nguyen and Cassandra Soto driving in two runs each. Glendale totaled five extra base hits with Soto doubling and four players had triples including Jena Kaser, Adrienne Lozano, Nguyen and Zabka. Starting pitcher Julia Ruiz got the win and struck out four with Morin getting the save.
Glendale hosts Pasadena City College Thursday at 3 pm at the Glendale Sports Complex and faces San Diego Mesa and College of the Desert in a doubleheader Saturday and in a single game Sunday.
Glendale opened up the 2012 season with a 5-2 win at Fullerton College last Thursday. Francisco Ochoa, Rick Ivynian, Carlos ruiz and Eric Khanlarian had wins in singles as did the doubles team of Ivynian and Khanlarian.
The Vaqs host Irvine Valley College Tuesday and play at Saddleback College Thursday at 2 pm. They also host Occidental College Friday at 3 pm.
The Lady Vaqs are 1-1 after splitting a pair of matches last week. They fel lto Mt. SAC 5-4 last Tuesday and beat Rio Hondo College 8-1 Thursday. Glendale won five of six matches in singles against Rio Hondo and swept the doubles.

Glendale opened up the 2012 season with a pair of losses last Friday and Saturday. The Vaqueros fell to Rio Hondo College 11-4 last Friday and lost to Mt. SAC 5-3 last Saturday. In the loss to Rio Hondo, Chris Stroh had three hits and scored three runs and Edgar Montes had a two-run double in the first inning.
The Vaquero play at Moorpark Wednesday and host L.A. Harbor College Thursday and East L.A. Friday at Stengel Field. All games start at 2 pm this week.
The Vaqueros dropped a pair of games last week to fall to 10-15 overall and 2-7 in WSC play. The lost to Bakersfield College 67-64 last Wednesday and to West L.A. College 77-70 Saturday. In the loss to West L.A., Marquis Brooks led Glendale with 15 points, 20 rebounds and four assists. Nate Bryant had 11 points and Nick Rhodes had 10 points ans four assists. Soreen Derbaghosian added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Glendale hosts Santa Monica City College Wednesday at 7 pm and has a bye Saturday.
Glendale dropped to 5-18 overall and 2-7 in WSC play after a 72-58 loss to Bakersfield College last Wednesday and a 77-62 loss to West L.A. College Saturday.In the loss to Bakersfield, Lidia Rivas led the Lady Vaqs wit 14 points and eight rebounds and Michelle Eclar added 10 points and four assists.
The Lady Vaqs host Santa Monica City College Wednesday at 5 pm and have a bye Saturday.
