The Lady Vaqs swept four games last week to improve to 13-5 this season. They beat Oxnard College 8-1 and 8-3 in a doubleheader last Thursday and beat L.A. Harbor College 8-0 and 10-5 Saturday to win a twin bill. In the 8-3 win over Oxnard last Thursday, Casey Nicodemus had three hist and drove in two runs and Kitty Nguyen, Jena Kaser and Brandy Morin each had two hits. Ashley Suarez had a run scoring double, Nguyen and Kaser homered in support of winning pitcher Julia Ruiz.
Glendale hosts Moorpark College Tuesday at the Glendale Sports Complex at 2:30 p.m.
Glendale won two of three games last week to improve to 7-4. They beat Cerritos 10-4 Tuesday and Moorpark 13-8 Friday before falling to L.A Harbor College 9-5 saturday. In the win over Cerritos, Chris Stroh homered and Cameron Gardner stole six of the nine bases that GCC stole as a team.
The Vaqs host Cerritos Tuesday and East Los Angeles Tuesday at Stengle Field with both games starting at 2 pm. They open up WSC Southern Divison play Saturday at Citrus College at 1 pm.
TRACK & FIELD
The Glendale men and women had some outstanding marks at the WSC Relays last Friday at Citrus College. For the men, the team of Miguel Flores, Daniel Munoz, Mario Castillo and Mizrael Mendez took fierst in the distance medley relay in 10:19.23. The 4 x 800 relay team of Flores, Alec Nelson, Isaac Diosdado and Castillo also took first in 8:09.92. Javelin Thrower Jason Ahn took first with a throw of 169-11 and Vladimir Diaz took second in the 3000-meters in 8:55.19
For the women, 1600-meter sprint relay ream of Nandi Watson, Geena Person, Angela MArtinez and Lilia Asserian tok first in 4:18.02. Angela Martinez took first in the 3000-meters in 10:51.97 and Justice Shank won the high jump at 5-4. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Cecilia Nichols, Zulma Herrera, Charlene quintana and Grace Zalmudio took second in 10:04.53
The Vaqueros compete in the Beach Invitational Saturday at 10 am at Long Beach State.
The Glendale men are 2-3 after splitting matches lasd week, an 8-1 loss to Mt. San Jacinto last Tuesday and an 8-1 win at home over Bakersfield Thursday. Trevor Campbell (6-1, 6-1), Grayson Frazier (6-2, 6-1), Andre Ratavousian (6-1, 6-0), Francisco Ochoa-Garcia (6-2, 7-5) and Mario Ruiz (6-2, 6-2) had victories in singles as did the doubles teams of Campbell-Frazier at 8-0, Ruiz and Ratavousian at 9-8 (7-5) and the team of Eric Khanlarian and Rick Ivnyian.
The Vaqueros host L.A. Pierce College Tuesday and play at Ventura college Thursday. Both matches start at 2 pm.
The Lady Vaqs improved to 2-3 with a 5-4 win in their WSC opener last Thursday at Bakersfield College. Sevana Zargarian (6-4, 6-1), Sofia Tavitian (6-0, 6-10 and Samantha Sismundo (6-1, 6-1) provided wins in sigles as did the doubles teams of Zargarian-Sismundo at 8-1 and Tavatian and Phoebe Minette at 8-4.
Glendale plays at Santa Monica Tuesday and hosts Santa Monica City College thursday at 2 pm.
Glendale had a bye last week and plays Monday in a WSC macth hosted by Bakersfield College at the Rio Bravo Country Club.
