The Child Development major requires different preparation at different universities. The first two years of the four-year degree are a combination of general education and some courses in the major. These courses can include some Early Childhood Education courses as well as courses in Psychology and Statistics. The University of California system and most private schools do not offer this major. Instead, they choose to include it under their Psychology major or as a part of Human Development. Students interested in becoming Elementary School Teachers should consult their counselor or the Transfer Center for specific information regarding the multiple subject waiver programs at the different universities.
